HISTORY
As Carrie famously exclaimed in Sex and the City, it’s a bag-uette, not just a bag (we’d have personally not argued with a mugger, but Carrie’s commitment to her Fendi Baguette shows how the design was a true fashion icon).
Inspired by the French routine of carrying baguettes under their arm, the Italian fashion house, Fendi, designed the Baguette bag to sit comfortably under the arm and present as an east-west style, where it was longer than it was higher.
Launched in 1997, the rest truly is history.
DIFFERENT STYLES
Fendi stayed true to the notion that baguettes aren’t a one-size fits all delicacy.
The Fendi Baguette has been released in the classic shoulder design, as a mini, a clutch and a crossbody style.
Designs vary from the Zucca FF motif to muted minimalist tones. Embellished must-haves to faux-fur covered classics, the Fendi Baguette has been repurposed for every taste.

MATERIALS
Fendi continue to release new designs of the Baguette bag every season, including the recent crossbody versions that include a laser cut handle that spells ‘Baguette’, so we could be here until next year if we attempted to pin-point all variations.
From the original Fendi Zucca FF canvas to three-dimensional raised motif print bags. Sequin embellished designs to pastel coloured leather creations.
The traditional Zucca FF printed Baguettes are the most popular versions but the seasonal exclusives continue to be snapped up by collectors worldwide.
HARDWARE
The iconic FF clasp is mirrored on every version of the Fendi Baguette bag. This continuation is a subtle nod that ties all the variations together under one umbrella of design.
Since the release of the original Baguette, Fendi have launched chain versions which have a long gold chain connected to each side of the bag to allow it to be worn crossbody, as well as on the shoulder.
The clasps are as magnetic as the design itself, meaning your everyday essentials are secure within this bag, meaning the pros outweigh the cons of this style (not that we can personally think of a single con).
UNIQUE STYLES
In 2022, to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Fendi Baguette, the fashion house released the Baguette in a ‘make your own’ version.
They provided a canvas structure of the baguette (with the hardware attached) but the box contained 24 variations of coloured thread that you could sew through the Baguette structure as you pleased.
Not only does this allow you to have a truly bespoke Baguette bag, you can also un-pick and thread as often as you please, making this a truly circular design.
As well as this unique concept, Fendi have released the Baguette bag in variations of loudly coloured suedes, crystal encrusted and clashing faux furs.

The iconicity of the Fendi Baguette belongs to SJP and her tenure as NYC’s most fashionable lady as the leading lady in Sex and the City. From it being a regular feature on her shoulder to when her beloved Baguette was stolen from her, this style held a special place in her heart and therefore ours. And thanks to the SATC reboot And Just Like That there’s no stopping the love for vintage Fendi Baquettes.
