Dior Saddles have effortlessly sealed their position in the handbag hall of fame and continue to rise in popularity among the fashion conscious.
The lovely Ruby Holley: Fashion Influencer & Sustainability Advocator, reached out regarding her Vintage Tan Dior Saddle. Enquiring about a colour change, she wanted to invest in her existing items as opposed to purchasing brand new.
To begin with, our colour technician prepared the vintage leather for its transformation by utilising our in-house cleaning products; to remove surface dirt and contaminants that could prevent the absorption of the ink.
Using a wool dauber, we ensured the entire tool was covered in the black ink to achieve optimum coverage.
Softly, we stroked the dauber in vertical lines across the lid of the Saddle. The colour glided on seamlessly and absorbed straight into the leather. Already, the colour change is striking and utterly irresistible.
We repeated this process across the entirety of the external leather.
Next, we hand painted in order to colour the tricky to reach areas, such as: seam lines, the Velcro leather attachment, around the iconic ‘D’ hardware…
To heighten the finish of this restoration, we edged the handle in a slightly glossed black shade. This protects the leather handle and prevents the material fraying from consistent use.
At this point, we switch our artisans so that a stitch expert can unpick, and hand sew a complimentary black Velcro strip onto the bag.
