Jane Birkin was a British-French actress, singer, and style icon, best known for her effortless Parisian chic and for inspiring the creation of the legendary Hermès Birkin bag, a symbol of ultimate luxury and sophistication.

The Hermes Birkin

The Birkin was created in a chance encounter on a plane between Jane Birkin and Jean-Louis Dumas, the then CEO of Hermès, stemming from Birkin's iconic straw basket falling over and spilling all her contents.

During the flight, the pair worked together to sketch out the design of the Hermes Birkin on the back of a sick bag, creating the perfect “roomy” bag.

The Hermes Birkin was officially launched in 1984, Damas gifted Jane Birkin one in return for using her surname as the name of the bag, it is reported that Jane Birkin donated her royalties to various charities each year.

Birkin was often spotted wearing her Hermes Birkin, adding her own unique touch to the bag over the years. Often decorated with beads, stickers, and occasionally even a watch attached to the strap.

In true Jackie O fashion, she redefined sophistication, making the Gucci Jackie a must-have accessory for the modern, independent woman.

The Gucci Jackie made a comeback with the Jackie 1961 re-edition, first unveiled in Gucci’s Fall/Winter 2020 collection under the creative direction of Alessandro Michele. This modern revival pays homage to the original’s sleek, curved silhouette and signature piston-lock closure while introducing fresh updates like a versatile crossbody strap.
